hey guys my wd's second gear is excessively growly, even more than it should be since its a straight gear, i was wondering, my grandpa has 2 wc parts tractors (soon to be for sale) one unstyled and the other one styled, would the second gear from either of these tractors work? thanks guys p.s. i have the earlier straight cut gears and not the latter wd 45 style constant mesh

I do believe that DR Allis said they were the same parts in different cases on another post recently. Maybe someone with a parts book will chime in and verify that.

The bottom shaft in the transmission (countershaft) is ONE piece. It has all the gears made in one cluster and runs on roller bearings. Any failure or wear on it requires replacement of the whole thing. Second gear on the top shaft (mainshaft) is part of 3rd gear and is the sliding part.

Oops....2nd gear on the top is part of 1st gear, not 3rd.

interesting, i do not know what one is giving issues as it hasnt been cracked open to see, so is the bottom countershaft, and the top, mainshaft interchangeable or do i need to find one from a wd in the bone yard or try to find a new one from a places on here or agco maybe?

AGCO will not have any transmission gears for a WC or old WD. They might have transmission bearings, and that is all I'd expect them to have besides seals/gaskets.

likely the input bearing and the roller bearings on the bottom shaft.  the shafts inside the bearings seem to wear more than the insides of the gear cluster.  i have torn down a couple and have some extra gears and shafts.  they are very simple on wc because you can pull the tranny out and set it on a bench.
