This past summer my 190 jumped out of third gear going down hill with a load.

This is the first time it has done this,it happened twice this summer but never

when it's pulling hard. I pulled the shift cover of and the gears look ok. Is there anything I can look for other than worn gears and shift collars.

That is a normal thing with the 190's & XT's. It's kinda expensive to fix but just lay your leg over the shifter when you go down hill, that'll keep it in.

Check for wear on the shift forks themselves or see if they are bent not getting the gear into gear fully. Check the dentents on the shifter, spring and ball and possiably look for play on the mainshaft make sure that is not sloppy.

You likely have excessive end play on mainshaft which aggravates situation but requires splitting to put in thicker snap ring.Place trans in third and push forward on lever.If it has more travel and then springs back to detent(they all do)you can weld/grind/move detent notch for full engagement of sliding gear collar.

Thanks guys for your responce. The fork looks like it's bent (uneven ware pattern)

I have a new fork ordered, the detent looks ok but i will replace the ball and spring

anyway. If this dosen't help I will split the tractor next winter.

If you can move the detent groove a little and let it go in gear a little deeper it would help a lot. I have never done it to a 190 but it works good on others.JP
