I havent rebuilt many gas carbs cause I really like messing with the diesels, so , when assembling a carb after putting a kit in it ,is it a good idea to use a sealer on the gaskets between the bowl and top ? I have some HIGH TACH  sealer thats for gas but should you use it or just clean the surfaces and put it back together ? Someone tried to fix a leak already using high temp gasket sealer and they used ALOT and still leaked !!!

Just have the surfaces clean and that should do it, Doug.  I've never used or neeeded to use sealer in that area, and if it needs to come apart again, the gasket can be reused if no sealer has been used.  Just my thoughts on it.

As mentioned, you shouldn't need any sealer between the bowl halfs. Just make sure both surfaces are nice n' clean, and they should go back together fine....

Just an idea, check the two halfs ofthe carb for flatness. If one of the carb half were warped you will have a leak. I never put any sealer on carbs. Just clean the mateing surfaces and install gasket, be sure and tighten screws snug but do not over tighten,I was told by an older mechenic to snug the srews in a pattern similar to torqueing a head down on a engine. Hope this helps! Don in Indiana

I always coat the gaskets with chap stick . its a trick i learned drag racing it keeps the gasket from sticking and allows you if needed to take apart a couple of times before needing a replacement gasket.
