well, working on the dozer today. I had put an axle in it a few months ago but have not run it, working on the steering clutches. well, as it sat, there was oil dripping from the dirt guard for the final drive seal. I thought the bolts that hold the collar and bearing housing were allowing oil to get by so I removed all of them today, cleaned and put silicone on the threads, filled with oil. after a while, oil was leaking from the collar again. it was coming from around the shim stack, not the outside edge of the collar. anyone had this issue before? should I have put silicone around the inner edge of the bearing retainer when I put it back together? I am thinking that the bellows might be leaking but I would think it would drip out of the end of the collar, not between the shims. does anyone know where I can get the bellows for the final seal? i have a bunch of used ones but if I have to take that apart again, I am putting a new one in. thanks
