All, I originally thought my 1951 AC WD was converted from 6v to 12v by my late grandfather. I now have reason to believe this may have never happend and perhaps it was another tractor that he had converted instead. So here are my questions: How do I tell if it is still a 6v system or not? Will a 12v battery run the system but prevent it from charging? If it is a 6v system and I put in a 12v battery would that short out my light switch (which doesn't work) but had briefly turned on before it went out? Thank you in advance

If it has a generator, if it has a 6 volt battery, if it has 6 volt bulbs then it might be 6 volts.
12 volts won't hurt the light switch but it may pop the bulbs. It may also cook the coil without a resistor. Others will correct me if I'm wrong. Stay tuned. ------------- 1957 WD45 dad's first AC 1968 one-seventy 1956 F40 Ferguson |

I run 12v battery, 12 volt bulbs with a 6 volt generator and 6 volt coil. The key is the resistor to reduce the 12 volt down to 6 volt before going into the coil. Confused yet. ------------- 1955 CA, SC, WFE; 2 bottom SC plow, SC 6ft blade, no 7 sickle bar mower, 302 baler |
