I have a chance to buy a 226 e engine and was wondering how much more hp and compression the combine engine has over the standard wd226. The 226 I'm currently running I believe is stock except for 175 gov spring and dry air cleaner plus 3/8 fuel line. I realize the combine engine would be built stronger in the crank department but bore and stroke are the same I'm thinking. I know I have to change over the gov and clutch but what esle is needed. Thanks rob

I just changed one over. Front cover, water pump, fuel block off, crank pulley, oil lines,,,,

A model W226 (from a WD45 gasoline) makes 56.1 flywheel HP @ 1600 loaded RPM. A model G226 (from a D17 gasoline) makes 61.7 flywheel HP @ 1600 loaded RPM. Increasing the loaded RPM speed to 1800 makes the HP 60.0 and 67.0 respectively. If you happen to find a later model combine engine with 8.0 to 1 compression ratio, it will be about 4 more HP.

And that is assuming your WD45 engine is STOCK and not been overhauled years ago with M&W pistons/sleeves.

I don't have my old M&W piston/sleeve charts any more, but I think a D17 went from 53 to 57 HP and a WD45 went from 43 to nearly 51 HP ? at the PTO.

I have honestly been wondering what I actually have as far as pistons and bore because its a real strong runner

Run a compression test on it and if it's more than 130 psi, it ain't stock. A D17 has 145 psi compression and real M&W's are a little more than that.
