i know that a wd made roughly 34 horsepower. my question is how much torque would it make, i would assum alot on account of the load it can pull and i know that part of that is due to the steep gears that any tractor has but i was just wondering

My WD-45 put out about 380ftlbs at 39hp. So maybe about 330-350ftlbs??

hp= (torque X speed) / 5250

so if it had say 34 hp at pto speed, lets just say that's 40 engine flywheel hp at 1400 engine RPM.
that's 150 ft lb of engine torque.

or if it had 40 hp at 1200 RPM, then it's 177 ft lb of engine torque

Numbers above are arbitrary for arguments sake.

if a good old snotty  Allis 220 makes  a bit over 200 pto hp at 1800 engine RPM on the dyno or lets just say 240 flywheel HP that's  only 700 ft lbs of torque.

A good CAT in a truck can crank out an easy 1850 ft lbs.  A small block 60 series Detroit may still have the same HP rateing but it's at a much higher RPM, better have some gears to find with the Detroit or just tickle the kitty and listen to it purr.

Actually the smaller cubic inches a motor is the higher the initial torque will be. But a engine of the same family with more cubic inches will make more torque overal in the rpm range torque is produced at 5250 torque anx hp are the same number value

Don't listen to the village idiot. Listen to physics. The equations are simple, Wi posted what you need.

The formula works not denying that horsepower and torque intersect at 5250. A 358 sb2 will initionaly show more torque down low than a 430 ci sb2 but around 4 grand the 430 kicks butt and will make 800 on anyones dyno but will be hard pressed to make over 640 torque.switch to 13 degree stuff and pjck up 50 ftlbs of torque with cheaper overall parts build
