we bought a Allis Chalmers D model, I think, confirming numbers and such next time I  get down to the farm.
when we got it the Gsoline engine was removed in a crate apart. we were considering changing it over to deisel. is there any suggestions to which deisel engine to use and or the thoughts. we plan to use the grader on the farm/ranch and not for show.
any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Mark, you might be better off staying with the gas engine. The G226 gas engine was one of the most common Allis Chalmers gas engines and was used in their popular series of gas farm tractors for years. As a result all the engine parts that you would need are available. The diesel version, the DD grader also used the same series of farm tractor diesel engine but it was a 6 cylinder engine so the frame on the farm tractors and the DD graders was slightly longer. You might be able to find a Perkins or Ford 4 cyl. diesel to fit but then you have to deal with adaptor plate, clutch plate and other modifications to make it work.
