This is sitting behind the 220 FWA that I listed in forum last week. Several members asked if I would post some pics of it. I was up by there today and stopped and snapped a couple pics of it. It has a allis chalmers stationary engine mounted on it istead of PTO power. |

Thanks for posting this up, great piece, if it were not branded Opel, I would love to see if the guy would part with it?? Looks like the 160 PU I bought with the NOS parts out of MT.....same air intake and radiator screen. I also have some potato digger NOS parts from that run. Can't tell if the exhaust is covered...too bad if it isn't. If I could pull something that wide up the interstate I'd go get it...even if it isn't AC. I found a little info on Oppel, seems Carl Oppel was from Canada and had some patents on potato and beet diggers back in the 1940's.

There is some information on this digger on page 365 of the Allis Chalmers book by Norm Swinford. Looks like AC marketed them from 1966 through about 1970. There is also a picture of it but the one in the pic was a PTO drive and did not have the OPPEL sticker on it. |

I seem to remember seeing one or more of these in Aroostook County, Maine (potato country) many years ago. There was an AC dealer in Presque Isle. Wish I knew more. Bob@allisdowneast ------------- I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not sure. |
