I want to put power steering on my D14,  Would I have to change the bolster?  Can the manual steering bolster be made to work?

IF YOU ADD THE POWER STEERING PARTS THAT IS NEEDED   BOLSTER SHOULD BE DRILLED FOR SUCH FITTINGS

Dustin, you don't have to drill anything to change it over, however it is not a 10 minute job to do because it is quite invasive to the front bolster you have to remove so much to get at it you might as well just take the bolster right off and add the parts, or put another one on. you have to put the hyd ram with the rack on it, which means you need to take the right frame rail off, and put that in along with the pump and lines, then you need to take the bottom cover off of the bolster to put the idler gear in between the rack and the sector gear, then remove the side cover and install the rack guide with the proper shims, then you still have to take out the worm gear on the left side and change the bearing race to a caged needle bearing in the bolster, then install the steering motor unit where the worm gear unit was. after all that you need to finish hooking up the lines. Also you must flush the unit of the old gear oil because it is the reservoir for the powersteering fluid and it needs to be real clean. Yes you can do it, I have done it, but its quite involved and much easier to change it with the bolster with parts in it.

Hey Fellas, does anyone have pictures or manuals that would show the necessary parts to convert to power steering?

This is my first post so I guess I should tell you a little bit about myself and my tractor. I grew up on a family farm (other than my time in Houston Texas while in school. I was glad to get back and cant imagine being anywhere else. The home I live in was built in 1862 by my grandfathers grandfather. I have a D14 that my Grandfather bought new on 8/29/1962. I know because I have the Operating instructions manual with my Grandfathers signature and the Dealers. Smile The way I got the tractor was not exactly straight forward. In 89 Hugo took down a 50 X 100 warehouse the housed lots of great old stuff. my grandfather was 86 then and most of the land we had farmed as kids had now been planted in pines. He had no need to rebuild so he sold a lot of equipment. My D14 was one of those. In roughly 92 my older brother bought it from the guy who bought it form my grandfather. In 94 I bought in from my brother. Finally, it was back home. In the short time my brother had it he swapped out the tricycle front end for a wide one (I still have the original). It was not in near as good a shape as the rest of the tractor and I need to do some work on it. The steering arm has a bad bearing or bushing and flops up and down. This makes my wheels wave back and forth more than a politician in a parade and it has a lot of play in the steering wheel. Anyway, when I got it I rebuilt the carb. and engine with new jugs, pistons, and all. It has ran like a top ever since. I also painted all the parts I had off of it at the time and the rims and hubs when my brother put new tires on it when he had it. It all original other than the lights and I replaced the generator with a GM alternator with internal regulator. The only thing my brother used it for was mowing and that was all I ever used it for until a few years ago when my garden outgrew my tiller. My brother had put some god awful 3 point hitch conversion kit on it. It was OK for a finishing mower but little else. About a year ago while I was recovering from a spinal fusion I designed a proper 3 point conversion and my sons (then 16 and 11) sawed, machined, welded and installed it for me. It is better than great now and I have attached a picture to show off their work. The bottom link arm adjusters and top link tractor mount were original parts of the conversion my brother put on (so don't judge them on that) but will soon be replaced too. I have prints and drawings if anyone wants to make their own and I plan to release them open source soon. I designed a disc harrow to pull with the D14 this week and once finished i plan to release it open source too. I have also attached a picture of it.

Anyone have a power steering pump for a D14/15? Finally got all the parts for my power steering conversion about 2 years ago. It worked great until Last week. I was driving the tractor when I heard a loud pop. I stopped and got off the tractor to find the power steering pump was busted. So, now I'm up the creek with out a paddle!

I have a D14 parts tractor that has power steering. 99.9% sure the steering parts are complete.

I'll be where the tractor is stored later this morning, I'll take a look and get a few pictures.

I sure did, sorry about the delay in getting the pictures up. Between my real job, 2 kids graduating from college, buying another house, and getting the food plots in things have been a bit hectic - but it's all good! Thumbs Up

Here is what I have...

Here is the S/N. Based on this I think you'll find it's a 1959.

Use lots and lots and lots of WD-40 (or your favorite penetrating fluid) on those steel lines !!!!! I doubt if ANY of them are available anymore thru AGCO. Might even need a little heat from a torch to help loosen things up without twisting a tube into a pretzel.

Dustin,
I've been at camp all weekend, just getting in the door. I'll give you a call, probably be tomorrow though. Packing up the oldest, she's heading off to pharmacy school.

I'm in northern NY, north of Syracuse.

Play Farmer, i have a D14 that I would like to add power steering.  I noticed a post from 2016 that you are in New York.  Do you still have all the parts?
