We are working on a allis chalmers roadgrader at school. I was trying to find the years and serial numbers form them on line but cant find anything. Its the gas d and it looks the same as a g226 wd45 engine. i was reading about the earlier ones that had 58hp but i dont think its that. i dont know the serial number off the top of my head but i can get it tomarrow. Another question, where do you find parts for these? would like a clutch be the same as a 45? just was wondering thanks for any help!

The model D grader with the gas engine was made from 1949 until 1970. If you find that serial # we should be able to tell which year it was made. Some parts for this you'll only find used but you'll be surprised how many parts can be found in other ways. If you mention specific parts on this site you'll hear from helpful people that will point you in the right direction. I'm sure someone will answer your clutch question.

There should be a serial number on a brass tag on the frame on the right hand side just where you get on the machine. I have a list of the serial numbers as they relate to the year. Depending on the year they started out with the WD gas engine then the WD45 226 gas engine and then the D17 226 gas engine so the clutch assemblies for these tractors was used in the D grader. My parts book for serial number 5425 and up has the same part number for the clutch as the tractor except for an additional number at the beginning of the part number.

That makes it a 1954 model. The engine and related engine parts would be the same as a WD45 farm tractor. The suppliers on this site should be able to get you the parts that you need.

that sounds good! how many where made in 1954? and what factory did they come out of?

My list shows serial numbers 3606-4310 for 1954 so that would be 704 machines for that year. I would have to look at the s/n plate on mine to try and confirm where they were made.

Engine parts no problem, other parts will usually require salvaging parts off of a parts machine or fabricating or adapting a part from something else. Good luck.

What specific parts are you looking for?

Seals and bearings are usually not a problem as these are not manufactured by the machine manufacturer but sourced from a bearing or seal manufacturer. Just take number off the bearing or seal and take it to any supplier of these types of parts.

I just picked up a Motor grader, the plate on the right side of cab says D-3097. Can anyone give me some insight on year? I can’t find the decoder on the web. Also on drivers side of engine are stamped number, anyone know a website I can use to de code them? Thanks

It is a Serial Number Guide by PRIMEDIA. It's a 1999 publication which suits me fine as I'm not into late model machinery very much LOL
