Not the expert but "they" say the later ones(84-85) had many improvements over the early ones. Now it may be that this one has had a lot of updating done to it but who knows?

79 was the first full production year. I believe 78 had 200 N6's released for corn harvest.

there were tons of updates, so be on the lookout. maybe post up ever digit and letter you can find on the SN tag, they were supposed to add letters for certain updates.

how much do they want?
honestly, the market is soft for combines right now on the online auctions. there is an N7 that sold on big iron last week for around 5 grand or so, and it was an 84 or 85. no header for that price though. there is an 84 or 85 N7 selling right now on Auctiontime for under 10 grand with both heads.

the N7 had the bigger bin (315 bushels, how about them apples John Deere! :) ), slightly bigger finals (the N6 was still 12 row ready though) but the N7 got the big 516 buda purring at 2200 RPM, versus the N6 screaming at 2600 (early) or 2400 (late) So as you can tell, I like the N7 a little better, but if you cant locate the big one, the N6 is still a decent unit.

IMO, the 81 machines were decent, 82 and newer (series three) were even better, and of course 84 and 85 were the best. We try and avoid running the 78-80 machines (we still buy them though, they are a good source of 7080 spec motors), but with updates, they too can be a decent machine.

good luck!
