I have a JD 2510 68 model, rated at 57 hp but very weak. It gets used a lot. primary baling, raking, tedding, and spraying tractor. inject. pump rebuilt 1 year ago with new injectors. I am ready for an in frame this fall. What are some tricks to get a little more power out of her? Allis has power kits for wd and 45's, international has power kits for h,m's but have not found anything like that for JD. I would like to see about 65hp out of her. She has 5210 hrs and never gone into except what I did. Any suggestions?

JD 2510 diesel synchro-range trans was rated at 54.96 HP @ 2500 rpm with a bore of 3.86" and stroke of 4.33" for 203 cubic inches. In October 1968 the 2520 diesel synchro-range was released at 61.29 HP @ 2500 rpm with a bore of 4.02" and stroke of 4.33" for 220 cubic inches. I'd wager that a 2520 piston/sleeve kit might very well fit in a 2510 block, but I don't know for sure.  Seventeen cubic inches would wake her up a bit. Your only other options are turning up the fuel delivery (which might not make much HP increase but a lot more smoke) or adding a turbocharger (which you would have to build your own kit).

The best bang for the buck would be having the fuel rate turned up about 5%. Shouldnt smoke any more and give it a couple extra hp. Deere also sells a lowering kit for the fuel injectors which i know some people swear by. I always thought they gave the engine a weird pitch, but i just did what i was told to and installed quite a few of them. Balancing the rotating assembly usually helps but im not sure if its cost effective

I've had a few of the 202 and 219 JD diesels apart. There are some differences in the liner o-rings even within the same engine depending on block marking numbers. You could put a 276 in and the later 4045 liter series would swap if you bought a complete engine.

If I rember correctly the 202 like in your 2510 will have the o-ring groves in the block. I've seen them ate up pretty bad. I just don't recall the differences in the block bores but I think some machine work would need to be done to put 219 internals in.

There isn't really any differences in the heads.

On our 2520 I used an exhaust manifold from a dozer and added a turbo. I backed the neadel stops on the injectors, built a fuel pump and ground a camshaft.   On the 2510 the hyd scv valve is under the hood and in the way. I've still got the old turbo setup that dad had built for it in the early "70's for the light superstock class. I don't think the turbo would cleat the scv valve on the 2510 though.

Bolt in a 239.  I saw one in a 2510 once with a turbo that was claimed to make 90 HP.

I thought about a turbo, but the scv is in the way. I would like to keep her original but turn her up a few hp, for some reason these things are still worth a pretty penny.
