Greetings Allis enthusiasts,
I am hoping that you all might be able to provide me with some details on my 190 brakes.  I have an early model 190, and I can not get the brakes to stop the tractor.  I have opened them up, and here is what I found.
1. On the right side, the pin that goes through the outer casing, bands and inner casing was all the way out.  I placed it back in, and still poor braking.
2. On the left side, the entire setup was coated in grease.  This I realize is the seal that is leaking, letting oil into the brake housing, and it is being churned into grease.

The bands and the plates all have good pad on them (in my opinion), and the adjustment screw is adjusted as far as it can be.

My main questions:
1. What is the proper pad thickness of new brake bands and disks?  Maybe evven though I have good pad, I need more.
2. What adjustments can be done to improve braking.  I realize that the 190 has always been known to have poor brakes, but there has to be some braking ability I can achieve.

Thank you for all of your assistance.

John

I went through the brakes on my one-ninety, and now they work good. Are all of the springs and balls in place properly? My typing skills aren't good enough to tell you all of the information you should know about the brakes, but if you could get your hands on a service manual would be best. Darrel
