New firestones on the back, sandblasted most of the tractor, and powered by cummins.

SWEET!!! Those 8000 series are boss. One time Mark (the AC engineer on the forum here) had said that an improvement that was in store for the 8000 series was a 3 speed range instead of the 2 speed. If that would have materialized, and a few other improvements such as the exhaust going up the cab corner and a fully digital electronics, these tractors would have jumped ahead of the competition drastically. They're awesome even the way they are, though. Darrel

Anybody remember the "Agri-Data" system we tried with the 8000's? We weren't too sure about the state of the art of a full digital system complete with ground speed sensing, so only 50 units were built and sold. As was feared, problems with EMI/RFI were encountered and sealing of the sensors and connectors wasn't far enough along. They were (at least all that AC could get their hands on) bought back.
Sensors and connectors have come a long way since then-------partially the result of the auto industry going to computers running most of a car these days.
The 3 speed range would have been a great improvement as the middle range with the Power Shift would have provided nice coverage for field work as well as field transport. And once the drive train engineers looked at it, it turned out that it wouldn't have been that hard to do.

I can sure see why AGCO/MF wouldn't want their reputation stained by associating their company with tractors like that. Here they are about 30 years old and people are still putting most of them to work. And the 30 year old Massey's, hmm, sure hope their new ones are better than their old ones.

what size tires ? and how much where they i want new ones for my 7045 but scared to call bout price it has 20.8X38 firestones 151.

these are 20.8*38 firestones 1450 each, fronts are 14L*16 310.each

I just put 18.4 Firestons on with new tubes and top off with methanol plus labor was $3135.80. I wish i had done it two years earlier. Scott

No. There was not nearly enough engineering or tooling money available for something like that. We were trying to find incremental improvements that would be relatively inexpensive to engineer, test, and tool. Things like a 3 speed range or the 9025 (AKA 8095) required little tooling or engineering.
Frankly, the 18 speed Deere powershift was not very good at that time. The shifts were terrible.

You are correct. Prior to that (1981 or 1982), they had an 8 speed power shift.

Certainly not defedning Deere but we had a 4255 with the sequentioal 15 sp powershift and thought it worked pretty nice. Although if you wanted road gears it took awhile to get throught all the other gears to get there unlike having a range box in front the powershift. But I had an eight year gap between driving that and the 8030.

That is a great looking tractor! I am planning to repower my 8010 w/ a 5.9 cummins motor, how hard was your repower? What size cummins did you use?
