see what ya'll think... i have a 1440 IH rotory combine, the rotor quit last year at the end of the season...(think it's the gear box) but not sure yet...the throat chain also jumped a few teeth and is running crooked....all this happened when i put a 20 ft head on to finish beans when my head shot craps! soooooo....i do have a parts machine....but i can buy another 1440 for $4000. i'm gittin to old for this heavy stuff anymore! i can lift the heavy stuff with my ag crane...the parts combine just has a blown engine, and a few parts missing that can be replaced again...what to do...what to do...

If the machine with the blown engine offers less repairs, wouldn't it seem to be less work to swap engines than fix all the wear in the present machine? I too am finding at 71 there is less desire to mechanic than 30-40 years ago. From your posts I think you may not need more experience, just more money at the end of the day!! hee hee! "sides that would give more time skinny-dippin" time!

used to run gleaners and deeres, didn't take to long to discover that gleaners were WAY ahead of the deeres....but then had 2 bad experiences with the local gleaner dealer, so that's why i went to IH for a combine!

Byron...that reminds me...i saw a Kabota sitting along the road with a mower on it...looked to be almost a new one by the hood shape, with a cab...using it to mow road ditches...gads! the paint was really faded...BAD! they musta went to a cheaper paint now! i've seen some older ones that have set outside most of their life that still had better paint than this one did!
