the bolt in your bull gear housing can only be from the pinion/diff bearing support or was left in there from previous work.  there are no other bolts in here  this is with brake housing removed
Here a view from the back.. you can see the bolts coming through.. also the rear axle bearing bolt with cap off.  you can see the oil was nearly to the centerline of the diff so if one of the bolts came out it would leak oil into bull gear side.
A shot of whole rearend still assembled but split from tractor

Good pics glad someone has camera and computer skills to help others out. I would say that if one of those lower bolts was out you would get oil into the axle. Looked like the capt had some hills If he was on some side hills it would have assisted the oil tranfer.
