Borrowed the brush cutter from the neighbors to cut a very mangy couple of acres. Took out some pretty thick brush and man she was grunting!!! The governors on these 45s are awesome. This is the first time i have ever really worked her that hard. Just made me smile hearing her work!!! Btw anybody know what brand or model that brush hog is? It was built like a tank.

Everything is dangerous. Be smart and you make a dangerous tool safe. it is only as safew as the person operating it. oh, and if you haven't been hit, you don't bush hog enough

That is a very foolish statemate. You must be pretty young. I have been brush hogging for a long long time, and, I always make sure no one is any where close to where I will be working (not even a dog, tie them up) All shields and guards are in place at all times, there is never a "GOOD" reason to remove them. I always tell some one where I am going, its way to dangerous, probably the most dangerous piece of equipment you will ever use. Things have a very weird way of showing up in your path that were not there "LAST TIME".

I never said stand around and watch, I never said it was a safe piece of equipment, and I never said there is any reason to remove shields. I said it is only as safe as the operator. Be smart, and safe, and no one will get hurt. I have no idea how you mis interpreted that, but I am sorry for any confusion. As for being young, age does not matter. I am 18, however there are people 40+ I would NEVER trust around farm equipment. you need to read, and re read before you call someone foolish, or you lose respect rather quickly.

as for being unsafe, I have seen fence posts get hit and stuck in trees. I would never allow anyone to stand and watch unless they are at a safe distance (100+ feet)

Yeah I definitely made sure no one was around. That side discharge really chucked some small limbs etc.

That is an old Bush Hog brand, and it is missing the shield. most are rear discharge, the early ones never had a specific discharge point. if I was going to remove any shields (again I AM NOT SAYING IT IS OKAY) I would remove the rear shield, as it seems like it would be safer for the operator at least.

It's a side discharge because somebody took the side cover off. You can see the empty bolt holes. I guess if you never turn to the left , you might get by for a long time without caving in your skull.
Oh and there ain't nothing like an Allis governor. I used the neighbors 600 Ford today to do some hoggin and it was pretty pathetic. Granted it sat for several years before I got it running last summer and it may be all used up, but the governor wasn't in my book after running my new 35WC.

try 300ft of old screen garden hose. did you know at 540 rpm 300ft wraps up tighter than a woodchuck in a tile in about 5 seconds?

Yeah its not surprising the guard was taken off. I borrowed it from the neighbor that I bought the 45 from. Old Neil was a balls to the walls kinda farmer...lol but he always took care of the stuff just tended to rig certain things up.....unfortunately he passed only a few months ago at the ripe age of 89. He went quick...no struggle. God rest his soul. I can still hear him cussing theold hesston when he plugged her up!!! Lol

When I was still working, I was working on a new house, in the kitchen. A guy was brush hogging outside, he picked up a piece of cast iron and through it clean through the side of the house. It came in the master bedroom, went down the hall and finally stopped in the kitchen. I was glad I wasn't at the right spot at that time. Will be something to tell my Grandkids about.  Dave.

You know what if you have a problem with me, you can take it up in private messaging. otherwise, feel free to keep your mouth shut. I take your little comment as a personal attack, and as I recall, that is not tolerated on this site. You have no reason to run your mouth. I explained my reasoning.I'm sorry I was taught that a piece of equipment is only as safe as you make it. there for if you act like a dumb ass while running a piece of equipment, your asking for trouble. I IN NO WAY SAID I MADE SOMETHING SAFE Like I said, I have no idea how you could have possibly mis interpreted that, I thought we were all smarter than that. apparently I was wrong.
People send me private messages on this site asking where I've been? well here's your reason for my absences. because I'm tired of people here acting like they know everything there is to know about farming, and if somebody does something different, they're wrong, stupid, foolish, outcast etc etc. I'm not sure whats worse anymore, high school, or some of the people here. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good people here, unfortunately, they are being overshadowed by children

Well, you are the one that first attacked my statement.  if your going to start trouble you have to expect some in return.  I like how you love telling people to shut their mouths yet you feel free to say what is ever on your mind then on top of that bring God into your signature.  Real piece of work.

I never attacked your statement. I was trying to say its part of bush hogging. leave our Lord  and religion out of this. This isn't the political section. Shame on you for trying to attack my religious beliefs. I thought you were better than that aswell. I never once said you couldn't speak your mind. speak your mind all you want, but personal attacks? childish if you ask me.

I was bushhogging one time and things were going really smooth and then I found an old fence line that wound up around the blade real fast ,when I turned around you could see the fence posts popping up from under years of brush.I had to cut it off with a torch which was a pain but looking back at it now its kind of funny remembering the way those post popped up . the thing that made me the madest was that I walked that field before I started looking for fences ,drags, trees ,rocks or anything else that could be there  . Once I found aold running gear with no wheels sunk into the ground

I was mowing a neighbors field. Her husband was a junk collector. As I was mowing I heard a lot of banging and clunking in the brush hog, when I stopped and checked i found what turned out to be dummy practice mortar rounds.  Can you say run like hell.  Had to get the bomb squad out to remove them.  Then the military came in and swept the whole field and found two more.

Unless something was said to you in the political part of this forum(which I dont read) you will get a rude awakening when you get into the real world, I dont see anyone giving you a hard time on this forum. Quit trying to act so innocent, all claus said was it didnt look safe and then you came in trying to make him look stupid. All in all this is a antique tractor forum for crying out loud, calm down. I also do feel sorry for you and sorry to hear about you friend, hope they get well.

I bet you were REALLY scared then, but it is REALLY funny now! You'd think people wouldn't leave ammunition laying like that.

It's a 1954 Purchased it from the original owner. Nothing has been mechanically replaced since 1960 when he put a d17 kit in it to up the HP a lil. I do believe it was repainted sometime in the early 80's is my guess. It was used as his loader tractor for putting round bales on the 2 ton. i believe having the loader on it is what saved the grill and hood from hardly any dents. I wipe it down with a rag that has Marvel Mystery oil in it. That red tinted oil seems to really bring out the orange in the paint. you just cant go wrong with a WD45!!!!!!

A 15' Farmhand brushhog will eat 4" trees with the right horse in front (7060). Grandpa used to back over 3 or 4 inch trees and whack them off. By no means ethical but it is possible.  And theres not much worse than cattle panels or woven wire in a brushhog

Think of it as?????
Your not in the elite of Allis Chalmers world.
1: you work to dang hard for your money.
2: you actually care about your tractor NOT WOW look at this POS I just paid for and I can write it off on my taxes
3:You have more passion for the tractors then most of the people combined.
