I've got this old level that I guess was my grandfather's. It's 9" long & stamped New Holland, "First in grassland farming". I assume it was given out as a promotional item. Anyone know how old it is?

New Holland started advertising "First in grassland farming" in the 1950's. However, this could be newer than the 1950's, because, in 1947, New Holland was bought by the Sperry company, and almost everything was badged "Sperry-New Holland."  So, if I were to guess, I would say that it is from after 1986, when Ford bought New Holland from Sperry. New Holland still uses this slogan on some advertising for hay equipment, or nostalgic advertisment. I think they have a puzzle with all the old hay equipment that they make even today.

However, knowing that Sperry-New Holland was using "New Holland" as a brand recognized as something "first" would most likely exclude them from badging it as Sperry-New Holland, as that would be untrue, knowing that Sperry-New Holland didn't exist when New Holland became "first in grassland farming."  So... that, combined with the patina and the fact you say it was your grandfather's would lead me to believe it is from the 1950's or 1960's  when New Holland was really hammering that slogan.

(I feel like a Keno brother)

I have 2 small levels.  One is from Miller Oliver  West Liberty Ohio and the other has ( always on the level, put your name and address here). They are the same, one must be a salesman sample.
