Subject: Year model chart on WD tractor???
Date Posted: 03 May 2012 at 12:08pm
I bought an Allis Chalmers WD tractor Clap.

The serial number is WD15665, thats  it...no other numbers!

I have the "spin out" wheels, and the hand clutch that was new for 1953, (please see photos). The year chart for the WD model shows that my serial number should be higher for a 1953 Ouch.

Could someone shed any light on the possible year of my tractor?

Thanks in advance for your help!!! Smile

The hand clutch was introduced in 1948 when the WD was new. Your serial number would make your tractor a 1949.

Thanks John, I see now on the chart where the "WD" is up there under the 1940's models now. OK...if 1949 WD models started with 35444...that would make my tractor,(15665) a 1948, the 1st year of the WD.

I had found an old ad on eBay that stated ,"new" changes for 1953, and it listed the hand clutch. That threw me off the trail while trying to ID the year. I appreciate the fast response.

My 1948 runs very good. I tried to upload some photos, but I guess I didnt do it right.

Thanks again! Smile

on that serial number chart, that is the LAST serial number built for that year.

so the last serial # for 1948 would be 9249

the 1949 model year would include serial #'s 9250 through 35444, Making yours a 1949 model.

also don;t believe everything you see on Ebay.

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you around.

That's a nice WD, quite an interesting belt pulley you have there.  I see you also have the power crater manifold! :-)

That ebay Ad you mention might have been referring to the Transmission.

In 1953 at Serial approx 127007 WD started using the curved Trans. Shift Lever and tapered gears, commonly referred to as the WD-45 transmission.

And when they did the  tranny change they went to a 3 disc and clutch vs the 2 disc of the WD.

Thanks Orange!!! I found an orig. belt pully on eBay , right now the opening bid is at $14. and shipping $22. I expect it to go up in the next 3 days tho. I would also like to get some newer tires installed on her soon.
Is this "Power Crater manifold" an orig. part, an upgrade option, or an after market addition? A rarity, or a common find??? I don't know much yet about this tractor...but I am learning LOL
Gary and Aaron...good info, I appreciate any and all info! THANKS!!!  Smile

The manifold is the original for a WD I believe. The Power Crater sticker  came with the 45's when they dished the pistons. I don't know if they ever made a PC piston for the shorter stroked WD engine. Seems like a lot of em got a sticker stuck on at some time.
