| I have a chance to pick up a decent D17D series III, with a rather beat up/modified Freeman Loader. As i have parts for Freeman Loaders in my "scrap" pile I'm seriously looking at it. However, the old low volume high pressure hydraulic system will need to be replaced/augmented in order to run a full hydraulic loader, with down pressure, et al.. What is the best way to achieve this? And has anyone out there in Allis land done this successfully. .. I've seen Series III pictures with full hydraulic loaders, but not up close and personal. Thanks |

I have a Series III D17D with an Allis 200 loader, and a 60 D17 gas with a Henry loader. They both use a front mount pumps. They will pick the back end of the tractor up if you are lifting something really heavy. Both of these loaders are designed for the front mount pump, and use the loader frame as the resivor. If you went to a front mount you would have to install a tank. In my opinion it is worth the hassle if you are going to use the loader a lot. ------------- 35WC on steel, B with belly mower, D17 puller, D15 Series II puller, D15 Series II with loader, 608 Lawn Tractor |

There are kits although rare, for a front mount pump. It was offered by Allis, and there have been threads on here about making your own. Dave Kamp did an excellent job of documenting his work on a front mount pump on his D17 here last year. I read thru all of it as it was going back and forth and when he was finished (I think) I copied the whole piece into a Word doc so I can use it for future ref when hopefully someday I add a pump to my D17.
It was title D17 Live Hydraulics Project. I entered it in the search engine though and it doesn't seem to pop up, I must be doing something wrong. If you can find it I think it would be an excellent reference. If not let me know and I will try to clean up the doc a bit and email it to you.
There was also a guy from ND that had pics of his conversion to front pump, it was a really slick job, but I can't find the topic or the pics. I know I saved them somewhere....sorry.

There was another rare kit for the D tractors as well. AC made a Hyd Pump kit that mounted in the belt pulley, like on a series 4, only it wasnt live like the series 4. The hyd tank was on the r/h fender/floor. I have a series 2 sales brochure that shows this kit. It would cost you a belt pulley, but I was always going to try to make my own mount and see if I could duplicate this set-up/ ------------- Experience is a fancy name for past mistakes.
