Hello new to this forum and not sure if this is the right place.  I just bought a i600 with a backhoe and am looking for engine parts . Is the G160 in a D15 series 2 the same as a G160 in the i600.  On tractor data it shows the same bore but different stroke. The engine I have has the centre main bearing cap broken looking for a replacement. where would you guys suggest to look.     Thanks Clem

The I-60/600 has the same G-160 engine as the D-15 series II.

Any idea where there might be a scrap block .  I am sure no one will want to part with the caps of a good block. The local dealer says they are no longer available.

I'd think the G149 engine from a D14 or D15 would be the same main cap as the G160 engine.

Clem: Recommend you head over to your junk man to see if there are any Allis's in the bone yard.  If you don't prefer that method, have you checked with dealers for NOS?

How about your engine rebuild shop in your locale?  There has got to be some spare main caps somewhere.

I will try the used route first then try the dealer.  Is a broken cap a common problem with these engines you don't see that often in automotive engines.  The oil level was good and the bearing and journal look ok just wondering what may have caused this.

Hey Calvin, did you get around to checking out what Norm Swinford had written in his `Farm Equipment` book on the subject of industrial tractors that I mentioned earlier on this topic? He says that the 600s had the 200ci engine, and all 600 series derived tractors (615 etc) had the 200 engine from number 5001 up. I`ve had nothing to do with these tractors but would like to get hold of an I600 sometime, and was wondering if anyone could confirm if the info in that book is accurate or not.       Mac

Mac, I did read that in the Farm Equipment book by Mr. Norm. He did correct that information in his construction equipment book. I- 60/600 all had the 175 diesel @ 44 hp as compared to the G-160 gas engine @ 56.7 hp. The 615 corrected the diesel hp gap with the model 2200 (200 cu.in.) engine at 57 hp. Late in the 615 production most were built with diesels. I bought a I-60 gas TLB in 1974, traded for a 715 TLB in 1977, and traded again for a 715 B TLB in 1987 which I still have.  38 years of A-C backhoes!!Also have lots of literature and manuals to support this.
