Had my D 21 (series I) out for a work out today, and noticed an oil leak. Right above the starter base, where it bolts into the bell housing, there are 2 threaded holes. 1 of them has a plug in it (I am pretty sure it was the lower hole), and the other one didn't, and that is where the oil was coming from. It was just a very small amount of oil coming out of it, not at all like under any pressure, but none-the-less, something isn't quite right there. I had the engine completely rebuilt about 5 years ago, and haven't used the tractor more than just 4 0r 5 hours since then, and never noticed this hole without a plug in it before. So, I don't know if it had something screwed into it before and it vibrated out, or if it never had any thing plugging it ever. Any body have any idea if I can just screw a plug in there, or is it something more scientific than that? By the way, the engine is actually a 3500 block, rebuilt without the turbo to be a 3400. Thanks, Darrel

I think the upper hole is coolant drain and the lower hole is engine oil drain back from a luberfiner filter which was behiond the engine on 7050-60-80.....no pressure, just oil return to sump.
