i have a pair of old burch 2row planters, and several different cogs and plates, to allow use of most every type seed, but manuals have not been seen in decades.

the seed corn that i have is  a different size, (med. round) vs old small flat that i have been planting. i have  plates that will accept it, but it has 18 cell, 6 fewer cells than my 32000 population that the planter is set for with the 24 cell plates.
I need to increase the speed of the  plate.
here is my question, do i go with gog which has more teeth or less?

I'm not positive, but I think it depends on whether it is the driving sprocket or driven sprocket. At least that is how it was on allis 333 planter I had several years back. As a general rule,a smaller sprocket will turn faster than a larger one.

i think i will just run some corn through it and see which one keeps up with the old set up per rotation, i have a little of the old corn

Don't know beans about corn planters, but 24 cell is 33% more than 18 cell so change gear ratios accordingly.  Increasing the size of the drive sprocket will speed up the plate rotation, or decreasing the size of the driven will speed up the plate.   Tim

sometimes a problem turns into a oppurtunity, Winkgood usuable two row conventional planter units around here sell from 300-1500, depending on condition,

so this will let me refurb one of my old one's to keep,Big smile  and then i will have 4 more 2 row units to sell, with a good assortment of plates , gogs, and manuals.  along with a truck load of nos parts, and all i need to make this happen is one short two row tool bar.

so i hope to corner the market on 2 row planters around here, and i will be able to sell them at a good price for  both me and the buyer

Hey KY Wonder,
Whats the chance of getting some photo copies of the Burch Planter Operators manual you found. I have been searching everywhere for one. Via e-mail or fax would be great. I have a 6 row Burch, just like one in your picture, and really need some info on getting it set up to plant corn correctly. Putting out way to much seed now. My plate is a number 992 medium.

parts are not going to ba an issue for a long time, the 3 seed box assemblies are weathered on the outside but have never been on a planter
