I have a few more questions about issues with my old G. Any advice would be much appreciated.

1. recently replaced gaskets on carb, but when fuel line is open and tractor off gas leaks out of the lower gasket (at last inspection floats are good).
2. tractor seems to suck gas, how long should a tank of gas last in a G?
3. is it recommended to use leak-fixing additives to the oil pan? I have a slight leak at the back of the pan, possibly from the pulley.
4. does anyone have any good advice as to how to adjust the governor? Tractor idles poorly and governor seems to be really enthusiastic (RRROoowww, RRROoowww, RRROoowww).

1. the float may be dropping too far and sticking in the bowl.
4. Model G
117. ADJUSTMENT. With engine
running at high idle, turn bumper
spring adjusting screw (1—Fig. AC
52D) in until surge is just eliminated.
Linkage adjustment consists of making
sure that the system operates
freely and that carburetor link rod
(3) is long enough to put a slight preload
on the governor arm when hand
throttle and carburetor are in wide
open position. This is done by adjusting
rod (3) to a length 1/32 inch
longer than required to connect its
two attaching levers when the latter
are in the wide open position.
Engine High Idle Speed. . .2100 rpm
Engine Loaded Speed 1800 rpm

1. If it leaks out of the gasket, the gasket is not installed correctly, and the float valve is leaking. The fuel should not be as high as the carb gasket if the float valve is is doing it's job.

3. I would not but any kind of stop leak in the engine oil.

I've been plowing and discing with mine and a tank of gas lasts a long, long time, more than I'd expect it to. You're probably leaking most of the gas onto the ground or running it very rich.

I doubt that your governor needs adjustment. It's doing what it's supposed to do. You need to get the engine running better. If it's hunting up and down at idle it's probably running lean, perhaps due to an air leak at the carb from the leaky gasket.

Using it only for cultivating, I used to get 8 hours on 5 gallons of gas.

If your gas is dripping when you turn it off, it is also overloading the engine when it's running. I will not idle correctly if the carb is flooding.

Take the carb off and turn upside down and blow into the fuel line. Then turn it right side up and blow again. You could have a speck of dirt under the valve that might blow out. Open the drain at the bottom of the bend on the air tube to see if it has gas in it. Usually if the carb floods it goes into the tube.
