Hi guys, first off I wanted to pass along that I bought an old Gleaner CH combine over the weekend from an old friend that had no use for it any more. Pic's will be coming next month when I get back to the farm.

Now for the fun stuff. I have a few questions about how how to get it home.

What is the easiest way to raise the header for transport without running the engine? Is there some way to connect tractor hydrolics to raise it?

Next question is what is the easiest way to pull it home, distance is only about 1.5 miles? Was thinking about a car tow dolly but the rear steering wheels are a bit to wide for one from uhaul.

What are your thoughts. By the way I will be solo transporting my new combine.

Take the hoses on the lift cylenders, hook then together with a tee. hook to tractor and raise the header up. then set the latch that holds the head up. If its an old C I dought it was a hydro. Hook a log chain around front fram and pull it home. It should still have a pinch brake on the ddrive so you cuold slow it down if needed. BE waiting to see the pictures. Roger

I have two C II but thought it would be neat to have a CH but none in this country. I hauled a L2 by chaining an I beam to the frame under the rear axle and then lifting wheels off the ground with the beam chained to the top of a 3 pt quick hitch. Also disconnected the shafts to the drive wheels. Hauled it about 10 miles at full speed and than again to a neighbour who dismantled it. For a short distance you should be able to flat tow it with some steering the combine.

i had a friend haul my f2 with no head on a lowered trailer i backed it on till the straw shoot was against the goose neck folded the mirrors in and down the road from caroliton ohio to my place ( bout hour and half) out 43 to 22 to 18 then my road was not real bad to haul either.

xt.....did you get popped by the law on 22 for speeding with a combine? what a trap 250 and 22 are......
