Hi there. I have a 426 Allis in an R6 Gleaner. I seem to be making oil in the crankcase. I can't smell any diesel. The oil feels like oil and crack the plug with no signs of water in oil. I have not yet changed oil on this motor and without changing oil, can someone tell me how long the tube that holds the dipstick is suppose to be? The reason I ask is because I measure the dipstick outside the tube and it reaches almost to the bottom of the pan. It looks like to me, if the oil is at the full mark on the dipstick it would be very low in the pan. Not sure, therefore the question. Thanks!
p.s. When I pulled the dipstick the first time it had a little bend at the tip.

what I would do is change the oil, check your owners manual to see what the capacity is.Put that much oil in the engine and run it,see where it comes to on the dipstick. If you think something is in your oil,you can have it sampled and they can find any traces of fuel, water bearing shavings and whatever else could contaminate your oil,Tony

If you change the oil, do an oil analysis.  That will tell you what you have in the oil (antifreeze, diesel, hydraulic oil, etc) and help point you in the right direction for repairing.  And they cost a lot less than an hour of shop time looking for the problem.

If there is coolant in your engine oil, there will be a whipped cream like slime on your oil fill cap on top of the valve cover. If there is coolant in your engine oil, the radiator will also be LOW. Change engine oil and with 2 new filters should be one quart less than five gallons.

I agree with Hurst you can by a analysis kit from most truck shops around here is in the $25.00 range. You guest collect the oil as you drain it, fill out the form and seal it in the shipping package with the provided label. and they will email you the results.
I forgot to say that the cost of purchasing the kit includes the lab fee.

Hi there and thanks for all the responses. OK, I am about 1700 miles from a test kit. Not saying that it can't be gotten, but I have to import it. The oil shows no signs of water nor of diesel fuel. I have seen it happen where diesel will get into the oil. The water level stays at 1" below the rad cap. The changing the oil is what I was planning on doing with 19 qts of oil if there was no other plan. I will change the oil and filters and see where 19 qts puts me. As to the water leaking past the sleeve Oring, Can I test the cylinders without pulling the head?

If you have a coolant system pressure tester you can drain the oil, pressurize the coolant system with the oil drained and see if water comes out of the drain plug. That is the only way I can think of to check the orings with out pulling them out.

Don't waste your time with a pressure tester. If the radiator isn't going down, you're not losing coolant.....it's that simple. Also if there's no sign of shaving cream slime at the engine oil fill cap, it isn't coolant. Assuming it isn't coolant, it's got to be fuel and I've never had an AmBac injection pump do that to me, but it surely could. You could keep changing oil for a while if the fuel ingression is slow, but you'll eventually need the injection pump overhauled.
