I just installed a new Ag. Battery in my tractor and when I go to connect the battery wires the tractor automatically begins to turn over! Please tell me this has something to do with a bad ignition switch.
Normally, it has a key switch that you insert the key into and then turn to the right. Once you've put the key in and the key is turned to the right then you turn the key loose and push a starter button (right beside the key switch) to get it to turn over.

First, is that starter button factory? Second, if it isn't i want to yank it out and put the right kind of key switch in there.

HELP!!!!!!!

My D-17 ser.3 came from factory with seperate key switch and push button for starter. Some did not have the starter button seperate and had key switch like in a car that returned to the "on" position when released. To my understanding they did not use a heavy enough key switch and added the starter button on later models.

It could be a bad starter solenoid , or wiring problem. Seems to me that both the ignition (key) switch and the starter button would have to be bad  for it to crank with the key off.                        Pete

I'm curious as to why you replaced the battery?  Did it go dead all of a sudden?  Maybe the starter solenoid was closed or you got a short somehow....that could have been why the battery was dead in the first place.
