I have come to know the meaning of bittersweet. My mother, after much thought, told me she liked me. She had no idea who I was. On a smaller scale my dad is going to give me his tractors and snap-coupler equipment. He doesn't see him using it anymore.
We all want to be liked by our parents, but ohhh the cost.

My dad tells me I'm no good and treats me like crap. When he starts to be nice, that means he wants something, then afterwards, I'm a no good piece of crap again. But I'll miss em when he's gone.

Some of my family are wonderful and easy to get along with and some are impossible and can't get along with anyone. I try to spend time with the pleasant ones and avoid the ugly ones. It does hurt when it's someone close. Remember we are not the only ones going through these troubles and we will get through them.

I could never do anything right for my father either until I joined the Army. We were tenant farmers, dairy. I left for basic and a four year stint in August 66, he sold out that December. Guess I was doing more work around the old farm than I was credited for. From then on we got along a lot better.

I worked & hunted with my Dad since I was 12, we did not always get along & I never quite measured up as far as he was concerned ( he hated farming & that was mostly what we fought about) but rarely a day went by that he was not around. Now he has Altzheimers and I really miss him, care for him everyday, he knows who I am but he's not really there. First hunting season without him, seems strange. Take some time now, tomorrow may be too late...Harvey

Harvey/pa is right.Take time now. My father too, died of altzheimers 13 years ago when he was only 71 and I was 41. He never would let me farm the home farm, so I bought one 5 miles away. He said I should have never bought it at the time. But he was out there the next day with the XT and bush hog!107 acres,house, grain bin, barns for $88,000. I sold it after he died for $212,000. wish he could have seen that. He never told me he was proud of me, but he told his friends. I know because they told me. He was a good man and I would trade everything I had for just one more day. (he was an Allis man, too.)

We moved back to Wisconsin 5-6 years ago. I've spent a lot of time with my dad since then. Some days he can be a pain but I really love him and enjoy almost all our time together. Some times, like after reading these, I get a little sad wondering what it'll be like without my dad as were getting closer all the time. Still, need to be grateful for what I got and enjoy my time with him. He's going to help me tomorrow put in my furnace.

I agree you should treasure the time you have with your father. I lost my dad 2 years ago when I was 16 and he was 42. I would give anything to have him back. Some of the best memories we had together were farming and hunting. Don't ever take for granted your family because when their gone their gone.

Sounds like my Dad. We spent time fox hunting when we were younger, spent a lot of time cutting wood these last 25 years. We spent Sat nights with the rest of the family watching Bill Gaither. I used to go down and watch Friday night fights with him. I sure do miss him.
