Hello, I just bought this 1960"s Allis snap coupler plow and cannot positvely identify the model or series . I want to get a manual so that I can read how to fully adjust it=depth ect. Also I believe that I will need to install a transport valve to use this plow to keep the rear cyl from bobbing up and down while trying to plow due to the traction booster. | Mike has the model right. I have the exact same plow with shear bolts, model 74. Are you sure you dont have the valve? unusual to see a late 17 without one? Anyway there are several ways to temporarily deal with the T-B/tail wheel problem until you source one. Easiest is to leave the T/B lever down, it isn't doing anything thing but lifting the tail end anyway. The depth should be set with the link in the hitch and the guage wheel, set it where you can pull the plow. If you need the T-B to pull it at reasonable depth and want to play before you find a transport valve a free but labor intensive fix is to lower the plow and uncouple the hose once it is lowered. Ok for a few rounds or long fields but not much fun otherwise. A less laborous but higher in cost temp fix would be to put a shut off valve between the tail wheel hose and male coupler and shut it off once lowered. |

Yup. With the hitches essentially the same, any of the plow model manuals should get you plowing. Its an 84. Parts and bottoms manuals are available at http://www.grandpastractor.com/phpBB3/index.php. Many operating manuals are available from sellers on this forum and on epay. Basically the 50 family has vertical fixed shanks and fixed width frames. The 60 has fixed with and angled shanks. The 70 has adjustable (for two sizes) width frame and fixed shanks, the 80 has adjustable width and spring trip shanks. All these plow frames are assembled from bent bar stock bolted together. Hitches, coulters, gauge wheels, and trailing wheels are separate from the basic frames and often common to the various models. Spring trip shanks were available separately and could be bolted to 60 or 70 frames. Bottoms were sold separately from frames. Gerald J. |

Thanks for the info, The man who bought this tractor new only wanted to pull a mounted 3 bottom 80 plow so this tractor did not come with the trans valve. Butch I had thought about a temporary fix by putting a shutoff valve like you said just to see if my d17 can pull the 4 -16 plows deep enough my 3 bottom #80 needs all new shins moldboards and coulters so I hoped to be able to pull this one if not the whole trip bottom/moldboard assy will swap out between the two. if you cant pull it as 4x16 set it down to 4x14 i pulled a 4x14 as easy as i pulled 3x16 ------------- 190XT 2WD45 WF D15 D14 CA BIG10 302 & 303 bailers 77G rake 80R mower 6 plows and alot more |

This plow has the steerable tail wheel too. So it would be a: Snap Coupler, semimount, steerable, Model 84 plow. Also has the depth gauge wheel.

Is the oiled up 1.5" thick adjusting rod my front plow depth setting, its the rod running diagonally down on the plow hitch. I would like to find someone who has the moldboards and shins for my 3 - 16 mounted plow the numbers on the decals of the 4 - 16 plow are 371-14 and they will fit. | Yes, that is the depth adjustment. I am in central Ahia too, near Mt Vernon. We will be having some of our fleet out plowing in a week or so including our D-19 pulling similar plow if you care to sop by. |
