Is there a difference between WC and WF axles besides length?

Are you talking about the pinion shaft? If a good machine shop doesn't want to repair yours, it may be possible to cut a set from a WC down. I know of a good machine shop, used to work there for 15 years:)
I have fixed shafts before that split at the bottom of a keyway. Ya gotta grind past any hint of a crack and weld it all up, recut the key seat. Some people might think you shouldn't weld on em but I have seen crankshafts from up to a 16 hundred ton forge press welded up and reworked.

I work at a machine shop and i will  probably weld them thier is a pretty good variety of welding rod out know for welding different types of steel , it split the piece out so it won"t take a lot of weld, machine and recut keyway when I reassemble I'm going to switch the axels from side to side that way all the torque will be on the old part of the axel when going forword on the weld in reverse
