what all has to be changed to change My CA from 6 volt to 12 volt, I know the obvious to change bulbs and battery.
I don't think the starter has to be changed. and I would need to replace the generator with a self regulating alternator.
Anything else or things to watch for.
thanks, Jarrod

You will need a resistor for the coil.

I wouldn't mess with buying a resistor for an antique coil. Buy a new 3 ohm coil and be done with it. The other thing you will need is a diode in line with the alternator or you may have trouble shutting the engine off. Switch to neg ground and reverse the wires on the coil.

Need to swap the wires on the ammeter too and for the alternator probably put in a 50 or 60 amp ammeter in place of the original 20 or 30 amp.
It is possible to rewind the generator for 12 volts or to find a 12 volt generator or to just turn the 6 volt one faster, but that means it may not charge at slow engine speeds where the alternator will do very well. You'd need a 12 volt regulator for the modified or sped up generator and it has to match the field circuit if you get another from a car or truck.

Maybe I'll do that to my 45 when I get rountu replacing the key switch. Mine has been swinging to the right when I turn the lights on and to the left when the tractor is running. doesn't hurt anything as long as the operator knows about it.

Ammeter backwards will work fine forever but confuse the inexperienced operator.

Why would you want to? If you fix the problem you won't have to change wiring, battery, coil, lights, gauges & generator.
Would it not be easier just to fix the starter and use the right size battery cables? 6 volt battery turns my "CA" over with ease.

I am still undecided on whether to switch it to 12 volt. If the generator is bad, I will go ahead and switch it over.
