does anybody have any good pics of splitting a d14 at the power director? anybody have any pointers?

I just did a D17. Should be similar. It was pretty simple. Splitting stands to hold the front half up and a chain fall to hold the back up. The PTO shaft stays in the rear half. It has a sleeve that slides and connects the front half to the back. The P.D. clutch will stay on the back half. When you take it apart there are seals on the PTO shaft and the transmission input shaft that you will want to change while the tractor is apart.

do i need to pull the pto shaft out of the tractor or just leave it in? i need to fix the pto coupler does not engage the plo lever just flops around like it is not connected to anything. i suspect the roll pin broke

Thats easy to fix. The coupler will be on the front half of the tractor when you split it. The way it works is the coupler slides from the front shaft to the back. I changed the roll pin on mine while I was there. All you will need is a punch and hammer. Change the o ring on the lever while there too.

If it is like the D17, you have to take the side cover off at the pd and reach in there and take out the set screw that locks the yoke to the pd shaft...otherwise it will not come apart.

You will need to remove the clutch from the shaft to change the seals. There will be a snap ring that you will need a set of "duck bill" style snap ring pliers to remove the clutch.
