I was draining the final drives on my 190XT the right side I pulled the oil drianed out like expected in to the 5 gal bucket put about 1" to 1 1/2" in the bottom of the bucket. I already drain the transmission, 1 plug left side behinde the split. I had changed to hydrailic oil earlier. I pulled the left side final drive drain plug and the oils shot out though the rear wheel and filled the 3 gal bucket that I used on that side, plus a lot on the floor. I'm assuming that the seal between the trans and the final drive is leaking. Or could it be something else? If the seal is bad what will it hurt to run it that way a year or two tell I can rebuild the trans, it is jumping out of third anyway? I'm just running out of time before hay season and still have some work on the baler.

Stray I believe each final should hole 2 gallons. So you say you didn't get 2 outta right and more than 2 outta left?

Yes it may be a little over 2 1/2 gal. But I used one of those 1/2 of a 5 gal bucket and it is full with some on the ground. If it does need 2 gal then the right is very low.

If you are talking about the bull pinion gears oil - i know what happened - maybe- inside the rear end housing there are two caps to stop transmission oil from getting inside the bull pinion gears , that oil is 90 wt gear oil ; one of the caps came off and the hydraulic oil is going into the bull pionion compartment - you have to remove the 3 pt arm housing and its all rite there , had that happen to me

You can get to it with just the top off on a 7000, but the fuel tank on the 190xt might cause a problem. If you take the rear housing off, be careful with the PTO shaft so you don't hurt that seal up in the housing. Check your brakes too, as running overfull can cause them to get oil on them. If you find a cap off, put some anaerobic sealer around the edge and tap back on.

If the final drive is very low on oil, it isn't because of a cap out of place inside the differential area. Someone either drained it and didn't refill it properly, or the axle seal leaks or the drain plug is missing the plastic gasket (or badly damaged plastic gasket)causing a slow drip which would drain it down. Refill everything to proper levels and monitor where the leak is...if there is one.

I was more concerned with the left side that seemed to full or would over 2 1/2 gal be about right?

I don't want to make it sound like I'm not concerd about the right side being low but I know that I can keep an eye on that and I will be fine, tell I get done with hay and have time to take the trans a part and rebiuld it.

Stray when I did mine I remember left was low and right poured out 2 gals and scared me lol. If they're properly full when draining it'll really scare ya when ya pull p[lug..

OK, I will fill the trans frist that way I can see if I have overflow to the final and then fill the final and keep an eye on the right side for leaks.

OK, I found out today that the transmission and rear end fluid is defiantly leaking into the left final drive. Since I don’t have time to rebuild the transmission right before hay season and I don’t want to do it twice I have decided that I’m going to try to run the same oil in the final drive and the transmission. I’m thinking use the UTF in both. This tractor will not be doing any heavy draw bar work; it will just be pulling a mower, rake and baler. Also if something starts leaking between the trans and hydraulic it’s the same fluid. What are your thoughts, yes I know the right fix will be to tear it down and fix it. I already need to pull the trans apart and fix the jumping out of gear and all this will all be apart then. My plans are to do just that this winter.

Mine done it for a while , never hurt a thing ; i,m doing it on my 865 NH skidloder right now - but it doesnt get used all the time , i think u,ll be ok ,---but if its just a cap off it dont take long to fix that

If I remember right the IH 706 and 806 had separate bull gear compartments but they had such trouble getting the heavy gear oil to the outer bearings that the bearing would go out. They were noted for this failure. The fix was to run Hytran in the bull gears and they also did away with the seal between the bull gear compartment and the rear end so the oil was all one. The oil level worked out OK. I'm not sure what the oil level works out to be if that was done on a 190.

You will be running the final drives pretty full if you keep it up to level with the differential (like 6+ gallons of fluid or so if I remember right from when I drained my 7000's). If your axle seals are even weeping now, expect it to get worse with the thinner oil and more pressure. Also, you will probably see leaking from the breather, at least mine did that. If the seal to the brakes is not in great shape, you will probably get oil on your brakes and need to redo those as well. But it could work fine for a season, I bought mine running this way...

my plans was when I did split it to rebuild the trans I was also going to redo the PD, brakes all seals. So I was already planning on it.
