Getting 8030 powershift ready for it's new home. Bringing tractor in the shop after sitting for a couple of years it started puking hyd oil out of the trans input seal. Fair enough, I split the tractor and replaced the seal. It really didn't look bad. Also replaced the torque limiter and the flywheel bushing . It was pooched. Torque limiter wasn't even centred in the flywheel the bushing was so bad. Buttoned the whole unit back up and burnished the limiter as outlined in the allis service manual. Now onto the current issue.
  You can drive the unit as long as you want and in any gear  and the front powershift  seal wont leak. Shut the tractor off and after ten minutes there will be a puddle on the floor. Split the tractor again and the seal looks absolutely perfect but you can see the trace of oil coming from it. Removed the front plate and the nut behind it is still staked and tight. measured the run out of the shaft at the sealing surface and it was negligable. A long time freind and ac mechanic was concerned the shaft might be bent from being run with the bad bushing. There was probably a cup or 2 of oil behind the plate when i removed it. Was suprised it didn't drain back through the big tapered bearing. Could this be coming from the clutch sealing rings, or has anybody had issues like this before.

I have always been concerned about proper installation of that seal. I always use black electrical tape and tightly wrap the splines on the shaft like a barber pole starting at the tranny end and finish towards the front of the shaft. Then spray WD40 or other light spray oil on the tape and the seal can be slid on over the splines without any damage to the rubber seal lip. I'm not saying this is absolutely your problem, but it might be? Also you might consider two gaskets to get the seal to run on a fresh spot on the shaft.

Remove powershift valve, with a bar lift up on front clutch pack. If there is any play at all the timken bearings are loose. Have saw the big nut in front strip the threads and still staked down. The only way to adjust bearings is to tear the trans. down. If it has run loose it most likely has worn the front housing.  MACK
