Did another garden, loaded up and was heading home when I noticed in the rear view that the right front wheel was wobbling. Odd I thought but continued on home and the wobble got worse. I figured the bearing nut must have worked loose so I put the jack under the front and the wheel just fell off! The spindle shaft fractured and just broke. Lucky that it didn't fall off coming home, but bad luck that it happened. Not sure what happened. I think I have a source locally for one I hope!

Had something similar happen to me once....... it ended a little worse than that. Had a load of 6x6's on a trailer. One spindle broke causing too much strain on the other, it broke causing me to swerve all over the road before I could get stopped. Jack knifed the trailer bending the bumper a little. Nearly wrecked bad a half dozen times before I got stopped. To make it worse I had my best buddy Clyde (a 100lb boxer) in the cab with me bouncing back and forth between me and the passenger side door. It could have been much worse.

Just to clarify, this was the spindle on the B! I was glad the wheel didn't fall off and run over someone

I had side boards on my car hauler and loaded about 2.5 pick up loads of split firewood on it. I drove the 24 or so miles home but about 100 feet from my drive, the left front wheel of the trailer came off and rolled across the highway, bounced off the guard rail and rolled back across just missing the back end of the trailer. It came to a halt, leaning against the guard rail on my side. It was a brand new tire and the bearings had been pack about 2 years before with no more than a couple hundred miles on it. I was LUCKY. No damage to the tire, and the only damage to the spindle was a flat spot on the bottom of the threads. I got a new hub, bearings and seal and was back in business. Still don't know what caused the failure.
