when putting new pins and springs on lift-arm latches what is a good way to get the old pins out? or is there any good way?thanks for any help! TOM

I ran into the same problem on the last pair that I worked on. Some of them come apart fairly easily, other don't. If they have a welded tube, I have been able to remove the pins. But those with the pin hole drilled into the casting are tough. I have 2 of them with the pin broken off inside and they are too ahrd to drill out. I thought about using the HOT WRENCH and then drilling before they cool. Haven't tried it yet. Bob

There are two ways that I know of. One is to use a weld on puller, which is my prefered method. You weld the puller to the broken pin, quench, and gently tap out. The trick is to weld only to the pin and not the surrounding cast. I have done this for many years. You must use a 7018 rod for it to work. The other method is to detemper the pin. Heat the area cherry red, cover in a bed of stove ashes. Allow to cool in the ashes and you should then be able to drill. If you cannot, bring them to me and I will help you out!

Same problem on my WD45. I know its a shame, but I used a grinder and removed them completley. Going to weld on new sleeves or weld the pins right to the arm, not sure which yet.

Carbide end mill. The drive screw is hard and won't drill without cardide or harder. you can soften it by heating. I think the hole it fits in 7/32 diameter. HTH Tracy Martin
