Hey guys,

I have a 180 diesel with no power. I have taken the sediment bowl off and have plenty of fuel there. Replaced the fuel filter plenty of fuel there. I took the fuel line off after the filter to the injector pump and have all kinds of fuel there. Put it back together and went down the road in road gear. She lost all power could not get her above 1800 rpm. No smoke and still hitting on all cylinders just no power. I did notice the rpm's going up and down between 1200 and 1400 rpm. Any ideas?

This is probably a case of a a deteriorating flex ring in the fuel pump. You could try removing the return fitting on the top of the pump and see if you can see any little black pieces of rubber in there. You can also see if the tractor will run better without the fitting, although it will make a mess. If it does run better with it off, fuel pump is in need of a rebuild.

On the top cover of the injection pump there is a fitting that has a small glass ball and spring inside it. Remove this fitting and take it to a bench grinder and lightly grind on the end of it to loosen the crimp that retains the washer with the hole in it. Pry the washer out of the fitting and throw it and the glass ball and spring away. Blow air thru the fitting and be sure it's open. Re-test how the engine runs.....if it fixes it, you will need to have the injection pump overhauled someday in the near future.

very common thing to have happen to Roosa DB pumps. Can also try running it with timing window loose to bleed off the housing pressure.
