i bought a small dozer a while back the under carriage is cletrac but the motor is not just trying to figure out what i have if i need parts, the man who built it said it was a ac motor but dont have any idea which one. I will try to  describe it. 4 cylinder gas.  mag on right hand side distributor sets vertical not horizontal . has no fuel pump carburetor is on left side it is a tsx 464. starter is in center top of bell housing there is a stamp on block  of right hand side AM3853-21. also has a screw on oil filter any help would be great. thank you

Didn't Cletrac use alot of Hurcules?? MAybe that was only in the diesel versions......

i looked at the hercules pretty sure its not one of them. does it sound like it could be a d 17 engine looking at photos that is what it looks like it but cant get any real good pictures of itConfused

If the starter opening is on thetop and the distributor is on the right up rite it is basically a WC-WD-WD-45,D-17 engine. They were all basically the same. there is a serial number on the rear of the block. Check it out. Also, if you could give us a picture it would help.

thank you so much.  so far it runs perfect . have small crack in exhaust manifold at least i know what to look for. i will post pictures but but it will be a couple of weeks before i get up to the cat again.Smile

AM-3853 is the WD-45 block casting number.

That is a 45 engine with a distributor, won't have a Mag.

1953-1957 There should be an engine serial number on the left side behind the carb in a raised pad. Get that number and we could figure the year it was made.
