I'm putting together a parts list for the Square head bolts on the wc as I would like to replace them and some had to be cut off as well. On the Agco parts book the break downs give a breaf discription and a part number. There is a complete list at the end of the parts list (that does not give quantities). There are numbers that don't show up on the parts list.

Does anyone have a list of the bolts or a way to cross referance the numbers. As they are just bolts, I probably won't buy them from agco. The agco site does not let me search the part number??! unless I'm missing somthing.

I'm looking for the specs on

70201843 Bolt, engine support

70900052 bolt with nut

the parts list on the site starts70901431 and goes up. this is just the first I've found on the list that I need th info. there are others but I can either use the original or take the measurements. There are a few I can not do this. I'd prefer to know what the original information is rather then just sticking in bolts.

is there a way I havn't found to search those numbers?

Unfortunately AGCO does not care about visual correctness on their parts, if you order a bolt from AGCO, it will simply be a superseded part number, and you will get a newer hex head bolt, that will "work", not that will "look" right. This was true of Allis as well, it just doesn't make any sense to keep two 1/2" x 1" bolts in the parts book, one square head, and one hex.

Yup, and sometimes they wont even work.

If you order a steering wheel nut for a D series from AGCO you will get a 30.00 7/8 fine threaded nut

The steering shaft is 13/16-20

I agree for most reasons it does not make sense from a business stand point. If I can't determine I'll throw in what I can. The parts list does show all the parts and list the square head bolts. the problem is their exploded view with quantities is non specific and part number does not always show up on the parts list which is specific. I do have a supplier for my bolts. It will cost $10.00 order with no restocking. So I want to make sure I have all of them and the correct hardness, when I place the order.

I'll just have to guess at a few. The hex heads we have stock so I can just pull most of them as I need them. t

hmm and sometimes they are not correct.... Guess it was a good thought I'll just measure and stick back what is there. I do know the bolts that have been replaced. They are not many. I won't worry about correctness if a can't verify. Just seems a shame to go to all the work and stop short of verifiying the bolts.

If this is a nut and bolt full parts off restoration, then it is very much worth your time. We have quit a few unstyled WCs around the farm if you want help, but it would be a while before I can get up there to help you out. We only have three styled WCs, not sure that would be enough to get a consensus on correctness.

Thanks for the offer.

I'll verify everything I can first and narrow it down to specifics. Mostly its only the ones that would have come off to remove the working parts for repair. the rad(not original)the engine, transmission. and the draw bar was completly reassembled with all the parts but not the right configuration. Those bolts (drawbar)all need to be torched off, so I'll be replacing all of those. Every thing else is original, 99% sure anyways. The square bolts I do have, may or may not be original parts in some cases. It was not uncommon to replace them with what ever. We are still doing that, not worth trip to town if we have something that works. (From the consistancy of the original bolts the factory had a similar attitude)

I'll post what I can't verify, that could be a couple of days here, cross referencing the information.

Do you have the Dealer Parts Reference for Standard Products?

I don't have the TPL# handy, but that book does a superb job of spelling out the numbers, etc of all the "generic" hardware used. Obviously it does not x-ref it to model, but if you have a number, you can pretty well tell what they were using.

Square headed bolts that are better than grade 2 are uncommon. I know some exist as specials, like the wheel weight bolts for JD cast centers that are grade 5 and have a ribbed shank so they stay in the hole. Otherwise I see McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com) has grade 5 square head bolts in some sizes:

Looking in my 1945 machinists handbook it lays no claims to bolt strengths saying all are pretty good, but that makers vary. There may have been an A.S.A standard back then, it didn't give me any hint. More likely there was an SAE standard for automotive and tractor bolts with options for higher strength steels (my first guess would be that fine threaded bolts had a better chance of being better steel).

Glenn I'm using the agco online parts book to cross reference what I'm tearing out. The Parts numbers I'm using is from that site. on the hardware list they are 8 digit numbers all begining with 709#####. I don't know anything more then that about the number.

Gerald about the grade of the square heads its a good thing to keep in mind. From my observation so far the have been used where the grade of the bolt did not matter much. It is a good thing to keep in mind, I'll switch to hex if I think there could be a chance of a broken bolt.

I did find intersting that the parts list included a single Plow bolt in the drawbar assembly. I have to assume an error but... still need to check.

It took some time to check every bolt on the list, but I did verify the square head bolts. It looks like the only square bolts that had been replaced are the generator and on of the tool box bolts. All the others match up with the parts list

Here's what I found

Drawbar - 2 5/8" bolts on the brace to prevent drawbar swing

Light wire- 1 3/8" clip to hold the rear facing light wire to the frame (near tool box)

Generator bracket- 2 3/8" generator to frame

Governor control - 2 3/8" governor control to steering vertical support

Intake exhaust 1 3/8" top hole of manifold at muffler

Magneto control - 1 1/4" at cross shaft through gas tank support

Front grill shell 2 3/8" Mounts grill to frame (side note one is nc-2 the other is unc-2a??why the difference I'm not sure- they do the same thing)

Starting crank -2 1/2" - mount start crank clips to fender

Steering geer- 2 1/2" vertical support to frame

Steering column 1 3/8" column bearing support

Fender 6 1/2" fender mounts

Tool box 2 1/2" tool box to frame (good luck seeing those without taking them off)

Foot rest 2 1/2" foot rest to foot rest bracket

Starting Rod ( didn't find size but still have) 2 small bolts holding the starter rod support to the foot rest thatis mounted to the differential.

I'm pretty sure this is accurate, and is what I'll use. If anyone thinks they know of others or ones that might be wrong let me know and I'll cross check.
