I just purchased a 1973 200 and according to the serial number it is Cost Reduced model, what is the differance between a so called regular priced 200 and a cost reduced 200?

Have never had one but I know they went to the gated power director lever, when it wore it would lose pressure and cause problems, I think a little less tin work and maybe a lighter front end support. just things other people told me.

I'm just guessing here but I once owned a green and yellow four cylinder 1010 that was marketed as the "Special". It even had "Special" decals on the sides. Turns out that "Special" meant made to sell at the lowest possible cost..i.e. stripped down with no optiions included. For example, all the other 1010 models (there were quite a few) had adjustable cushion seats. The "Special" had a tin seat. Could "Cost Reduced" mean something similar?

Smaller tires, different cab (no visor I think), less frills.

I have one too. It was hard to figure out what cost reduced meant until i brought it home and parked it beside my xt ser.3 and started comparing how things were built. Cut corners big time on the cost reduced 200.

The front casting is hollow compared to a full block , 500 lbs lighter too , the transmissions seem worse , powerdirector control problems , brakes suck , engine liners have more electrolisees trouble if you dont use conditionor in the cooling system, a series 2 XT is a good one

If you look at the parts break down the biggest things changed are the power director gate instead of the push down style. Also the Gear shifter is taller. Same transmission setup. They had a different seat on them in the suspension area that was fine but not as nice. They had a single headlight on them in each fender vs. two. They had a different air filter than the earlier ones. The brakes are a different style I cant says as if they are any worse at all. If they are in shape they work good. They hung on to the dry brakes to long on them. Other than that on the parts break down there is not anything that much different as I can see.
