| Ok folks, recently had a topic of eyeing some orange. I finally made a stab at one of the tractors; AC 175. The guy quoted me a price and im just kinda looking around to make sure it is a good price. Visually the tractor appears to be all there. Even appears to be original paint, although seen better days. Sheet metal is a bit rusty but seems straight. Hour meter reads 1054, owner claims it works. Tractor has not been running for quite some time(years). Gas engine. Owner says engine will run. The only reason he parked it was because the hydraulics quit working on it. I thought this may be a simple or complicated repair. Has power steering. Front tires appear to be decent. The rears seem to have good tread, although they are a mismatch and one is flat. That is pretty much all i know thus far. The guy quickly spouted off a price of 1200. The guy seemed like a nice guy though. Would like to post pics of it sometime, but what are your thoughts on the tractor as its been described. Thanks. |

| Ok Thanks for the quick reply folks. I did a little research and tractor data says that there werent that many gasser made compared to diesels, is that beneficial in any way?? Is the 226 engine in the 175 basically the same engine in my d17?? Anyone have any thought on the hydraulics not working; as in what it may be?? i know it could be anything, but was looking for a common problem the 175's had with hydros. Does the 3pt allow down force to be given, or is down force just driven by the weight of the implement?? Thanks. |

Good Lord son get the tractor. $1,200 is cheap. A 175 gas is basically a D-17 series V or VI and they are some of the best model tractors Allis ever built IMO. Personally I'd prefer a diesel but for that money you can't go wrong. |

Look at it this way, it's a gas tractor so it will be cheaper than a diesel to repair or overhaul, a carb kit is much cheaper than rebuidling an injection pump. At the price your looking at you can put some big money into the hydraulic system and still have reasonable priced tractor. If you decide to pass please PM me with the details and I'll come get it. | SKS the 3pt is just gravity for down force. I would get it thats a good deal. I used my uncles for baling hay one year and I can't think of any tractor I'd rather use. Although fuel usage would be less on the diesel I would be better equiped at keeping the gasser running. Are you don't want me to go look at it for ya? Just tell me were it's at.LOL!!! |

my dad has a 175 gas on his farm and man i think that is one of the nicest tractors out there it has 5800 hours on her and dad has rebuilt the clutch and brakes but she always starts and dad made a blade out of scratch for the back and put the bigger 18.4 28 tires on it and that thing with no chains on the tires will go through anything he used to plow with it but the oil started blowing out the breather when you really start working her hard. ill post picks when i make it out to the farm to snap a pic i think when dad bought it he paid 6,000 and the tractor came with the 3 bottom allis plow made for that tractor. he still uses it to push the snow around and pull wagons though i think the gas is better than the diesel that thing starts even when its 10 below dont even need to be plugged in and that is nice when a tractor is that deticated to work. my 15 is the same way i still plug it in though when it gets really cold out. ------------- ~AMP~ |

I've run a 170 gas for several years, same tractor a few years older, great unit. Starts and runs and does everyting I ask. I did get chains this year for it, and with those on it is a surefire snow machine! Good solid and fairly simple tractor.  ------------- |

| I would have paid the man on the spot. I can attest to the greatness of the 175G, the one in my barn is the best. Gas is easy as others have stated, if you were working it 8 hrs a day, all week, by all means diesel, otherwise no need. I would not worries about any issues, buy it, and go thru it, fix it up, and enjoy the ride. |

| Not to divert the thread here, but I was just curious. Tractordata lists the 175 with a perkins diesel engine at 64 hp, but they also show the 226 gas motor, but no hp. Would the 175 gas be the same engine and hp as the D17IV/170? If it's the same as the 170 gas, what was the difference to make it a 175? Just curious - but it sure does sound like a great buy. |

| One other thing to consider-- the 175 gas tractor was the last gas powered tractor made by AC and I consider it a milestone changeover unit. |

| OK, OK ill buy it already. I looked it over a little more yesterday really quick. Shot a few photos to take home and analyze. I have not got a chance to read the serial number to confirm the actual tractor being a 175, i guess it could be a 170 with 175 decals; but i havent seen anything that will really point towards this. It looks like it has a factory weight hanging mount that attaches to the front of the tractor, no weights. Rims are a bit rusty will need some fresh paint. I think ill have to use a winch to load it on trailer. Tractor data claims the weight of this tractor being 7200lbs, is that correct?? |
