I need the torque specifications for the head on a 16 hp Kohler, by the way it'a an Allis Chalmers 916

  we torque ours at 400 in. lbs  it is a little over but will not hurt it   clean bolt holes and threads good also

   400 in. lbs. = 33.33 ft. lbs.

If you look in the service manual I posted, you'll see that it says 25-30 ft.lbs for the head bolts.  Just like norm said, the 400 in. lb. (or 33 1/3 ft. lb.) spec. is a little over.  I've never had a Kohler apart. so I can't speak from experience.  You should follow the sequence that's given in the service manual.  It's important, too.
