Just installed engine in my latest project D17D, Clutch pedal has several inches of freeplay with adjustment all the way out and release fingers set at 2-7/16" as book says have new throwout bearing and clutch plate that appears to be correct thickness. clutch does release OK just seems to have too much freeplay on the pedal before it begins to release. I remember having same thing on a D15 but don't think I ever found why. Is this normal for these D series.

As the clutch plate, flywheel, and pressure plate wear the freeplay will decrease. As long as the clutch releases, is adjusted correctly and isnt uncomfortable to use I wouldnt worry about it, sounds like everythng is right. HTH
