I am looking at an old Allis Chalmers gas forklift with a mind to convert it to propane.  The nameplate appears to read as follows:

Model:  FP6024
SERIES: 40635000

The lift has a straight 6 engine and appears to have at least 6000lb capability.   Am I reading the numbers right?  My guess is that the lift was made in the 60's or 70's.  What type of engine does this thing have?

Any expertise that anyone could bring to bear regarding where on the lift I should look for engine information would be appreciated.

If it is a 6 cylinder, it is a A-C (Buda) 230 or 262 cu.in.

Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed
