What is best method of installing pistons in block? I realize they go in from bottom. Book says it can be done with crank installed. I can't seem to get one started that way. Just wondering what the G gurus do when rebuilding thiers. Thanks Tracy Martin |

| I'll defer to those who know a N62, but generally you install pistons from the top with the head removed. If you can get a ring compressor on a piston and still install it from the bottom with the crank installed, go for it. |

| Rod end is wider than the bore in an N62, that's why they have to go in from the bottom. |

| Tracy, If you install the rod/ piston assembly from the bottom without the rings does the piston come through the top of the block far enough to put the rings on from there?? I know my '34 MG engine is done that way. |

| I really only wanted to install the crankshaft once. But it appears that I might need to set the clearances on it, remove it. Install pistons and rods, then install crank again. Then pull each rod up to it's own journal for final install. Seems like should have been an easier way.Any suggestions? Tracy Martin |

Ya jus gotta ask those kinda questions when it is colder than my old body wants to be out side. I have a G block out in the (COLD) shed with the crankshaft in and the pistons out. I just came in from doing chores in the cold wind and if I can get warmed up I might go out and take a coupla pictures as I stick a piston back in, if needed. I put the rings on after I put the pistons up thru the bores.  |
