My Grand dad bought a new Ford Golden Jubilee the year I was born, 1954. I spent many hours on that tractor as a kid. It's really not much of a working tractor; we always called them "cow tractors" because we mostly used them around our place to chase cows and fix fences, like an ATV would be used today. But on Grampa's smaller farm this tractor fit his operation and served him well right up to his death in '83. My Dad took it over when Gramps died and my brother, who now owns and lives on Gramp's farm, took it over when Dad passed. I always said that if I didn't end up with that tractor I'd someday find one for myself. I brought one home a few weeks ago. It has the Sherman step-up/step-down and two way remote already on it and I bought a live PTO/hand clutch for it today. Some day, after I've collected and installed every possible option and accessory I can for it, I will probably completely restore it. For now I'm just enjoying the feeling of returning to my youth, just like working a WD45. It's a nice feeling.

that's a nice story. it may be the wrong color but it's the wright life style. dad still has the 51 CA that my grandpa bought new.

Its Ok Brad. I had a 851 Ford for more than 20 years. You need to find a Elanco 4 wd kit for it now to have all the options.

Brad, they mock me here sometimes, but I get the same feeling on Dad's 8N that served us as the primary tractor until I was a senior in high school. It's fun to take the "big" Massey out too, but not the same feeling as the 8N. Glenn

brad Know how you feel.My dad brought a new 51 farmall super a it was his first new tractor. I spent a lot of time on it as a kid. He passed away 11 years today and even now as I am writing this and tears running down my face I think about all the good times he and I had working with this tractor.

Brad I think confessing is good for the soul....lol nothing beats a family attachment to a tractor. After getting out of the Marines, I've bought alot of other color tractors without confessing, so that makes you the better man...lol. I'm still living the dream here in Maine managing an AGCO / Massey Ferguson dealership. It was great to see your post. Mike

brad...way to go.in my 45 collection,i have the wd-45 that i drove home from the dealer in 1957 when i was a junior in high school.it has been on the farms till i got it when my brother was killed 6 years ago.people think i am crazy,but i would not take a million dollars for it...

No problems with other colors from here. I have a few that I may not like personally, but I would never fault someone for having one if it meant something to them. Now that I think about it, most people like us have our tractors, whatever the color, because they remind us of someone/someplace. Sometimes it's good to get back to basics and "live in the past" as my wife says. She can't begin to understand how I feel when i'm working my grandad's old C. It sure makes me happy though.

I have both brands in my blood as well. Besides the A/C's Ihave my grandfathers 1964 Ford 2000. it was the only thing he ever bought brand new his entire life. I have the original owner's manual and bill of sale. He bought it exactly 40 years to the day he died. He bought it Dec. 7th 1964 and he died Dec. 7th 2004. As long as i keep it running it seems there is a piece of him still here on the farm.

Brad, Remember, when I think of antique tractors I'm color blind. I visited a John Deer museum in Harrington, DE some time ago and saw my first Waterloo Boy, along with a JD GP, JD D, JD B, and my favorite JD the LA.
Yes I was born and Bred Allis Chalmers but I still recognize and admire with pleasure classic tractors.
Also, some tractors have a very special family meaning. I cannot keep a tractor in a "row home" - we have been down that road before - but if I could find the first Flat Top WC my father sold I would somethow make the room. The Improvement Association would probably throw me out of the development but it would be worth it just to have the memories.
Special Family Tractors mean that much.
