I have my doubts, but thought I ask here.
I've been looking at this plow sitting on my neighbors property for more than 25 years now. I'm sure that it could be mine, just by asking for it. He's kinda mentioned that before. I'm sure a lot of the parts have rusted together & it'll need a lot of work.
I couldn't find any identification on it. Any idea what it is?

Anyway..... do you think a B would be able to pull it in hardpan the soil of northeast PA/Southern Tier NY?

Its an Oliver plow. You can tell by the crank. They are about the easiest plow to pull. It will have the radex bottoms. Measure the beams to see if you would be able to use it behind your B. You might if it is a 2-12.  Looking at the picture it is hard to tell but my guess would be 2-16's. Sure would be good trading stock if it was made field ready.

Weight the B down and pull it. I would try it for sure.

Sure would be worth a try. As Dick said -- if it did not work out, you have an item to sell or trade, as well as the fun of trying to see if it would work.

I have a two bottom Minni Moline and not being a expert on plowing its the first plow I go to. Once you figure out the plow needs to be level in the ground it will do a very nice job, and simple to hook up.  I don't think B will pull it but you need to add it to your collection !!

First, pull it home.  Next, in some out of the way place see if the trip works.  Next grease the few zerks it has.  Don't move the levers or change any adjustments, it worked for years right where they are!

Your B will pull it, just don't trip it!!! :)

I HAVE THE SAME PLOW & HAVE PULLED IT WITH MY 38 B , BUT I WOULDN'T WANT TO PLOW 40 ACRES WITH IT. YOU NEED GOOD BRAKES TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT , BECAUSE THE FRT END DON'T SIT DOWN WHILE PLOWING.

Those parts that have rusted together - stick them in a container, add water and washing soda, and use your battery charger to electrolytically remove the rust.  Works great and will probably free up most of those parts. In the toughest plowing areas, drive a couple inches further to the right to reduce the load.

I know my WC will pull it.  I had one just like it.

Is your B hell for stout?
This clay up here will make her grunt with two bottoms, but if you got enough weight to keep the front end down and the rear end from spinning out, you might be able to work ground that has been plowed before. Don't expect to break 50 or 75 year old pasture with that combo. Use your mounted B plow to bust that ground up the first time.

That being said, GO GET THAT PLOW! Plows make an easy, fun winter project and come spring you got something to play with. My neighbor down here in Bradford County had a B and an Oliver plow like that, that he did his garden with every year. So it can work.

Like was said before, if you get her all freed up and shined up, you got great trading stock, seems like nice plows get harder and harder to find up here in this little corner of the world.

We got to get together one of these days, I'd like to see your new plow when we do!

and if your B can't pull it, good reason to get a another AC, just a bigger one!!

Could you drop the second bottom? Might look kinda funny but I know for shure that a B can pull a 1 bottom plow.

The B will pull it, the trick is not to drop it in the dirt!!!!!!

One of these days, I"m going to have another talk with my neighbor & see about bringing that plow over to the shop. It probably won't happen this year though. Too many projects going on right now.

Hey Glenn,
I sent you a pm.

Hee hee... I'm sure your B will pull it out of those trees... even better if the tires will hold a little air.  ..Dave's right- if you don't put the shares into the dirt, it will certainly be fine... and it won't tear up his yard as you're leaving...

I'm with Lars-  if you can't pull it with the B, add to your collection.  Never have a reason to not add another Allis to your stable.

I pulled a 2-14 IH Little Genius plow behind my B for years in 2nd gear. In our ground the old farmers always said to put 1 less bottom on then the tractor was rated for.
Clean it up and have fun. Bob

I've seen a C pull one of those without trouble in good black dirt. If your B is healthy, it has enough power.

To answer your question, as it sits,no way in he/?  hades will your B pull it. With all that rust on the moldboards it will pull like a 3 or maybe even a 4 bottom! Been there done that, got the T'shirts.Your will need to grind the rust off, then polish until you get near a mirror finish! So many newbies think they can shortcut this one fact and then find out different. The next thing is, they will be on here trying to find out why their plow wont work! I plowed for at least 40 years as my main tillage and in time and experience you will learn the hard way! Another important piece is unless there is a point to the shares, they will not develope "suck" or go in the ground. This is compounded by harder to plow dirt like clay vs. sandy soil! The first thing I learned as a boy was to protect the "scouring" or shine of a plow. Each night if there was a least chance of rain I would be made to wirebrush all(and I mean ALL)of the dirt off the 'boards and swab them with heavy oil. Coulters too. This allowed  me to be able to run so much easier(like third gear in loam, second in heavy dirt)and burn way less fuel, and not heat the tractor from pulling it's guts out. This was with a WC rather than a B. After you arrive at a "shine" then maybe you can pull it, but probably not more than 6" deep. The left lever sets the depth while the right sets the "tilt" or leveling of the plow.  Good luck and have fun!!!!!

I think you better just get the plow, fix it up, and report back to us! Good luck.

Well... yeah...

I suppose we should have included the caveat that it won't pull well in it's 'current' condition...  but under the right circumstances, I think he's got a fair chance of being useful with it.

I wouldn't spend time grinding the crud off... what I'd do, is what my grandfather would do...

Free up all the adjustments with a can of penetrant, a 4lb hammer, and a propane torch, then hitch it behind something BIG, and drop 'em deep into the sandy riverbottom soil for a few passes.  Sandy loam will polish that thing up really pretty in about two or three passes...
