Changing the primary fuel filter on my 7G, and I noticed no spring or seat cup below the filter element. I didn't have my manual with me, so I assumed these parts were missing. Upon arriving home, I looked it up in the AC manual, and the diagram shows no parts below the element. The bottom of the filter can has no cup built into it; does the filter just set against the bottom of the can? Seems too simple to me. If so, that would mean that the filter is just kind of crushed between the can and the housing. Maybe the can is missing the lower seat. I have a tractor salvage nearby with several 7's and 6's if I need a "new" can. Well, if anyone has the answer I'd appreciate them sharing it with me. C.

doctorcorey, I am not real familiar with a 7 "G", if it is the HD7 with the 3-71, there is no spring or spacer in the primary under the seat, the can (4 bolt) is made to length and requires Wix# 33061, remove the first number and then it is the Napa number.. Tad

On 344, 6000, and 7000 engines with American Bosch PSB pumps and cartridge type filters, the fuel filters are common with 2 cycle Detroit, so Tads description is how it will be. Like the Detroit injectors, the PSB pumps dont like dirty fuel. Hence they share the same filtration with very fine secondary. Mac

Thanks fellas. It seemed like something should've been there, but I could tell that it was compressing the filter slightly as I tightened it. That old filter I pulled out was literally dissolving! Now I can sleep better. DC.

When I went to change my filter, someone had used a filter of the proper diameter but about 3/8'' longer and just pulled it up with the bolts, needless to say what it did to the filter(insert smiley face here) As I recall, there is a thick synthetic gasket on the top of the filter that accepts the all the crush. Tad

Yeah I'm big on clean fuel, too, and nothing is as cool as a big tractor. I wish I could drain the injector pump sump, too, but am not sure if there is a provision for that. Anyway, my next project I hope will be a HD21. I want one bad!

At least there must be some left to find is the US doc. Although transport mite be a big headache. Was a few 21s came down under but not many compared to D8s. Contractor near me used to have 2 HD21A models. First big machine i ever saw. Sadly most all gone to the the big dirtbowl in the sky.
