I have both a 620 and 720 I want to repower, would like the honda although I have been told by the small engine people locally the Vangaurd engine is actually better and have had less problems with them than the honda, and as I understand it is either a copy or it is built in Japan, have thought about the diesel option but after looking and driving some small diesel lawn tractors, I am not going to pursue it they shake to much, are noisy and small diesels do not perform like there gas counterparts. So it looks like its going to be the Vanguard for me would be neat to do a honda and a vanguard just to see which one is better.

I used the V Honda to replace the K341 Kohler 16 HP in my New Holland S16.
Same engine in Honda is rated from 18 to 27 HP , so unsure of what they change in it to up the HP. Might get some ideas from this link

If I recall correctly, Lombardini is connected to Kohler. They use those diesels on walk behind tractors and they seem to be good little engines. The walk behind engines are air cooled. I don't know about the larger ones.

Dang you guys now I got to rethink this again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although with 2 could make one diesel and one gas, the 620 came with a tall ag tire should put the diesel in that one w dual on, now that would be wicked

I was told that the new hondas use a positive ground now, thats why you dont see them in the conv kits anymore.. Im just thinking that about 30 hp would be ideal and turn it into a mowing machine.. Its hard to tell what hp ive got now but i would guess around 10 so anything will be a drastic improvement.. When you mow with a very weak engine and have to go so slow you cant help but daydream about going 7mph cutting grass. :)

Seen the small V Honda engines used in cycles and are said to be putting out 45+ HP with some small modifications.
As far as polarity of charging system that is a small problem that isn't a problem . All my British motorcycles are + ground.

I put the Honda 24HP replacement from Small Engine Warehouse 4 or 5 years ago in my 620 and have not regretted it one bit. It has not used a drop of oil and uses at least 1/2 the gas as the Onan engine. It has more power than the Onan and the deck belts will slip before the engine pulls down.

Lombardini and Briggs&Stratton were somehow tied together.
